Mars Proud to be a Great Place To Work®… Again!

Wednesday, 14 October, 2015
From open offices where all Associates work together, regardless of position or hierarchy, to the option to bring pets in to work and opportunities to take part in overseas volunteer programs, Mars is truly a unique place to work. For the fifth consecutive year, the business has been named one of the World’s Best Multinational Workplaces by Great Place to Work®—the largest annual global study of workplace excellence. This year, Mars is proud to be ranked 20 on the list of the world’s top 25 companies.
With more than 75,000 Associates in 73 countries around the world, training and development programs are key to promoting the entrepreneurial and responsible workforce that drives Mars’ principles-led culture.

Said President and CEO Grant Reid: “Mars, Incorporated may be best known for its beloved brands—like Pedigree, Whiskas, M&M’s, Dove Chocolate, Juicyfruit, Extra, Uncle Ben’s, and CocoaVia—but without a doubt the not-so-secret ingredient in our success is people. Mars Associates are passionate, talented and principles-driven, and we all care enormously about our workplace culture. Traveling across the 73 markets where we operate, visiting any one of our sites—it feels like coming home. Being recognized as one of the top 25 global companies to work for by Great Place to Work is a real honor, and we’re delighted to have made the list for the fifth year in a row.”

In selecting Mars among the world’s top 25 companies, Great Place to Work® recognized initiatives such as the Mars Ambassador Program (MAP), which each year enables 100 Associates to spend up to six weeks contributing to communities all over the world. In 2015, ten Associates helped the local population on an island in Indonesia rebuild 1,200 square meters of coral reef to encourage local fish stocks for the community. On a larger scale, 18,000 Associates volunteered 70,000 hours in their communities as part of the Mars Volunteer Program. Mars Associates also made 26,000 nominations to the company’s “Make the Difference Awards” —a program celebrating individuals whose work has made a difference to the business or local communities.

“People at Mars are so passionate and committed,” said Chase Ubernosky, Process Engineer at Mars Chocolate, North America. “The fact that Associates stay with the business for so long—many for ten years or more—shows that we feel empowered and that there are incredible opportunities open to us. Mars is a terrific place to build a career.”

Said Kay Barrett, EU Deployment Senior Analyst at Mars: “Mars is a truly global company, with offices and operations and opportunities all over the world. Sure, depending on where you work, there are differences in culture and work-style, but we’re all united by our commitment to Mars’ Five Principles: quality, responsibility, mutuality, efficiency and freedom. They’re not just words on the office wall; we all really aspire to live by them.”

Over the last year, Mars was named on more than 20 workplace lists, including Great Place to Work’s Best Multinational Workplaces in Europe. Last year, Mars made Great Place to Work and other national workplace ranking lists in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Central America and Caribbean, Chile, China, Denmark, Europe, France, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States. Also in 2014, Mars made The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers List in the UK.
