SEGRO builds new central warehouse for Tesco

Tuesday, 21 June, 2016
New distribution centre of Tesco company is being built at SEGRO Logistics Park Poznań. The company will start operations in the BTS building comprising over 30 000 sq at the turn of September and October 2016. Deliveries to 140 retail outlets in northern and north-western regions of Poland will be completed from the new central warehouse.
Tesco is a new customer of SEGRO in Central Europe. The lease agreement between the companies concerns the construction of the new BTS facility comprising almost 29 000 sq m of warehouse space and 2 000 sq m of office unit. Cushman & Wakefield, a global real estate advisor, acted as agent in the transaction. The facility is being constructed on the area comprising 10.8 ha. Already at the construction stage, which the general contractor is Goldbeck company, SEGRO attaches great importance to a strategic assumption which is to minimise the negative impact on the natural environment e.g. by waste segregation, decrease of water consumption and the reduction of CO2 emission by the construction equipment.

The building has the potential to be extended with a warehouse unit for servicing fresh food and also with additional infrastructure for lorries. The facility will be equipped with 28 transfer stations for the receipt of goods and 32 stations for transporters. The parking lot will include 50 places for lorries (in the future even 90). There will be also garage service point and a car wash at the disposal of the drivers. For 400 company workers in the new Tesco distribution centre (200 of which are employed under a contract of employment and 200 temporarily, during high season) there are 160 car parking places and 30 places for bicycles with a shelter. The nearby bicycle path will certainly encourage part of the personnel to opt for active ways of commuting. The security of both the workers and Tesco property will be guaranteed by an extensive CCTV system covering the warehouse space and outdoor area.

“The new centre in Komorniki near Poznań will join the two existing facilities of this type located in Teresin near Warsaw and in Gliwice. Thanks to a great location of our new centre at SEGRO’s park, the annual mileage of our company lorries will be reduced by 12.9 %, which will result in the decrease of a the carbon dioxide emission by 6.7%. Thus, our company will not only optimise the distribution processes, which will translate into greater business efficiency, but we will also positively influence the natural environment,” informs Adam Manikowski, CEO Tesco Poland.

“We are pleased that Tesco joined the group of SEGRO’s leading clients in Central Europe. Undoubtedly, one of the deciding factors connected with the choice of our offer was convenient location of the park in Komorniki, which guarantees effective distribution in Poland, but also in western neighbouring countries. The proximity of the A2 motorway, which constitutes a transit corridor between Western and Eastern Europe, and the location in central region of the country, prove the unique quality of this spot. We observe the growing importance and potential of Wielkopolska region, therefore we plan to continue to expand our portfolio within this location,” adds, Magdalena Szulc, Business Unit SEGRO for Central Europe.

SEGRO Logistics Park Poznan Komorniki with the completion of construction for Tesco will offer customers over 206 000 sq m of warehouse space. The park is located 10 km from the Poznań’s city, next by to A2 motorway and express way S5 being a part of eastern bypass of the city. In this region SEGRO has a one more complex: SEGRO Logistics Park Poznan, Gądki.
